The Schimmel piano history dates back to 1885, when Wilhelm Schimmel began to produce the Schimmel piano in Leipzig, Germany. The company grew in size and expanded over the next 40 years to become an internationally recognized instrument that was enjoyed by musicians and royalty alike.
In 1927 the company moved to Braunschweig, Germany which proved to be fortunate as they were not on the East side of Germany when the country was divided after WWII. The company continued to be in the ownership and management of the Schimmel family and was innovative in piano design throughout the 20th century, with high profile piano designs such as the acrylic piano.
In 2016 Schimmel aligned itself with Pearl River, a very large Chinese piano manufacturing company; however maintains factories in Europe with family shareholders and management still in place.
