This German made August Förster 6'4" Ebony satin grand, with an artist bench is made in the 1980s. It was purchased and cared for by one family, and has recently been added to our line-up of pre-owned instruments. It will be reconditioned after a thorough inspection. Cosmetically, the finish has some wear typical of the European instruments of this era.

August Förster made his first piano in 1859, and built a piano manufacturing factory in 1862 in Löbau, Germany. Soon, the company expanded and built a factory in Bohemia in 1900. The company operated under the Förster family ownership until in 1945 when the Czech republic nationalized the factory in Bohemia, and in 1972 when Germany nationalized the factory in Löbau. The company continued to be managed by the founder's descendants, however it was a difficult time. Regardless, they continued to exhibit on a national scale and won several awards and continued to be recognized for their engineering and designs.
In 1989 with the fall of the German Democratic Republic government, the company re-privatized and once again was owned by the Förster family. Today, it continues to be run by a direct descendant of August Fösrster. It is a small company with 86 employees, and continues to produce grand and upright pianos on a smaller scale.
