Aeolian Piano History

The Aeolian Company began in 1887 as a manufacturer of organs and self-playing instruments. It made many innovations in the world of automated instruments and became known for making pianos, organs and phonographs for home enjoyment. By 1932 it was the largest producer of instruments, and had bought several piano manufacturers who could not weather the financial times. It soon merged with the American Piano Company, becoming the Aeolian American Cooperation, and remained strong until the early 1980's. By that time, many of the piano names and assets were sold.
